The town of Telluride is situated in a box canyon with towering mountains on three sides. The town began as a mining settlement in the 1880’s. The ski area was built in the early 1970’s and the town quickly became a haven for skiers and snowboarders. High above the town of Telluride is another community called Mountain Village. Mountain Village is a modern community in the heart of the ski trail network. This community is the home to the destination’s newest hotels, shopping and restaurants.
