About Mt Hutt

Located in the middle of the South Island, only 90 minutes from Christchurch, Mt Hutt is where you’ll find the most reliable snowfall in the Southern Hemisphere. In fact, by the  end of July 2017 the base was over 270cm in some areas. Voted New Zealand’s best Ski Resort at the 2019 World Ski Awards, Mt Hutt is high and it’s wide. Most days at the summit you can see from one side of the country to the other, from the jagged spine of the Southern Alps to the West, right across the patchwork of pastureland to the Pacific Ocean on the East. Mt Hutt is Canterbury’s own “big mountain” with runs to accommodate families on a fun day in the snow, as well as the variety it takes to entice even the hottest skiers and snowboarders. Mt Hutt is a 30 minute drive from the town of Methven, a friendly alpine village with lots of accommodation on offer. Methven is very affordable and only an hour from Christchurch, which means it is easy to access and there are many cheap flights on offer.
